Brooklyn club shooting leaves 3 dead, 10 hurt gunmen sought

Three people were killed and 10 others wounded during a late-night shooting at a Brooklyn nightclub involving several gunmen, police confirmed Sunday.

The New York Police Department later identified the deceased as 19-year-old Marvin St. Louis of Brooklyn, 27-year-old Amadou Diallo of Upper Manhattan, and 35-year-old Jamel Childs of Brooklyn.

According to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the incident occurred inside the Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights. Officers responded within minutes after receiving reports of gunfire at 3:27 a.m.

“Preliminary findings suggest a dispute broke out inside the crowded venue, leading to the gunfire,” Tisch said at a press briefing. “We believe as many as four shooters may have been involved.”

No arrests have been made, and authorities urged the public to share any information. Tisch added that the shooting is suspected to be gang-related.

Investigators collected 42 shell casings at the scene, linked to 9mm and .45-calibre weapons. A gun was also found nearby, though its connection to the attack has not been confirmed.

The injured victims were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Initially, police reported nine wounded, but later confirmed a tenth victim after a man with an ankle injury arrived at a hospital on his own.

“This was a horrific act, and we will thoroughly investigate to uncover exactly what happened,” Tisch said.

Mayor Eric Adams warned of possible retaliatory violence in the aftermath and said crisis management teams had been deployed in the neighbourhood.

“An incident of gun violence on this scale leaves deep scars on both a community and a city,” Adams said.

While visiting the site Sunday afternoon, Adams, who is running for re-election, spoke about the urgent need to curb the flow of illegal firearms into New York City, stressing cooperation at the city, state, and federal levels.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Taste of the City Lounge expressed heartbreak over the tragedy, offering condolences to victims and their families.

“The safety and well-being of our patrons and neighbourhood have always been our highest priority,” the club said. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.”
